Transfer Decisions Dates for the University of Maryland College Park

FALL 2011 TRANSFER ADMISSIONS DECISIONS have just been released for applicants who completed their application by the March 1 priority deadline. Students who submit their applications after March 1 but by the regular June 1 deadline will receive their decision in the first week of July. Please note that the University of Maryland no longer releases transfer admission decisions on a rolling basis.

TRANSFER ADMISSION TO THE ROBERT H. SMITH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Transfer applicants applying to the University of Maryland who apply to the Business school are first informed of their admission to the University. Once admitted, their applications are then reviewed for admission to the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Students will be informed via email of their admission to the Smith school in late-June or mid-August.

It is imperative that the University of Maryland receive students' complete academic records by the competitive review dates. Please remind your students/advisees who are applying to the Robert H. Smith School of Business to submit an updated transcript with spring semester grades as soon as the semester is over and grades become available. The regular transfer application deadline for the fall semester is June 1.

TRANSFER ADMISSION TO NON-BUSINESS LEP MAJORS
Transfer applicants applying to the University of Maryland who would like to major in a non-Business LEP major will have their academic records reviewed for admission to the university first and then for admission to their LEP major. Students will be notified of their admission as well as their major in late June when decisions are made available.

UMUC Offering Community College Transfer Scholarships for the 2011-2012 Academic Year

UMUC will once again offer Community College Transfer Scholar-ships during the 2011-2012 academic year. We will continue to host instant scholarship days at each campus to award community college students on the spot! This scholarship is awarded to outstanding stu-dents from Alliance partner community colleges. Recipients may be awarded $3300 per year for full-time study or $1650 per year for part-time study. To qualify for the Fall 2011 scholarship, applicants must earn an associate’s degree and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Winthrop Univesrity - Scholarships for Transfer Students

Winthrop University (http://www.winthrop.edu/admissions/secondary.aspx?id=700) is offering a scholarship for for transfer students, as well as for international transfer students.

For students that completed 30 credit hours (excluding remedial or developmental courses) or more of college level work, there are two different merit based scholarships. Both scholarship are guaranteed for all students as long as the scholarship requirements are met!

1. If you transfer with a GPA between a 3.5 and a 3.69 you qualify for a USD 5,000 out of state tuition waiver and a USD 500 stipend per year.


2. If you transfer with 3.7 GPA or above, you qualify for a USD 10,000 out of state tuition waiver and will receive a USD 500 stipend per year.

TRANSFER ADMISSION AND THE ROBERT H. SMITH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

New Application Deadlines: Beginning Fall 2011, application deadlines, for both external transfer and internal applicants to the Smith School of Business, are March 1 for fall applicants and October 1 for spring applicants. Notification dates will be April 1 for fall applicants and November 1 for spring applicants.

Admission criteria including gateway requirements, and the competitive review process will remain in place. However, students are required to apply during the semester in which they will earn 60 credits, after having completed 45 credits. Both internal and external applicants will be notified that they may be admitted in the semester during which they are finishing the necessary CORE courses and up to two gateway courses.

Admission will be offered to competitive applicants with the condition that students successfully complete courses in progress. Successful completion of courses in progress requires a minimum grade of 2.0 in each gateway course, and an overall semester grade point average of 3.0. Those who do not meet this condition will be notified that their Smith School admission is rescinded.

For MC Students, this means:

• depending on when you apply (during the semester you are completing your 60th credit) there will be three reviews of the business school applicants March 1st, June 15th and August 1st.
  
• you can be in process of AC202 or either EC 201 or EC 202 -- for a total of two of the gateway courses the semester you are undergoing the review at 60 credits
  
• after your application has been reviewed, you may be admitted provisionally to the Smith school will only be offered final admission after your grades are posted for your final semester here at MC

UMCP - Criminal Justice & Psychology Transfer Admission Requirements Update

External transfer students from other institutions apply to both majors through the general application for admission to the University by indicating the major(s) of interest. With the single application for transfer admission, students are first admitted to the University and then to Limited Enrollment Program majors based on LEP standards - http://www.lep.umd.edu/.

Don't forget UMCP also offers a Criminology and Criminal Justice Program at the Universities at Shady Grove. This program is not a Limited Enrollment Program. University of Baltimore - New & Renamed Majors!

Integrated Arts - In the new B.A. in Integrated Arts program, students will immerse themselves in an artistic world, experiencing arts production and performance while studying arts analysis and management. They’ll concentrate in the art that interests them most: visual art, music, theater, dance, creative writing, and filmmaking. They’ll take courses in arts production and performance, history, appreciation and analysis of the arts, government and business as they relate to the arts, and technology’s impact on and importance to the arts. They’ll learn about the cultural, political and economic aspects of the arts while specializing in areas like creative writing, creative multimedia, graphic design, visual arts, theater, dance, music, photography and filmmaking. When they graduate, they’ll be prepared to work for businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies that deal in, represent or interact with artists and the arts.

Real Estate and Economic Development, Construction Management – Students who successfully complete an associate’s degree in Construction Management (or a related field) are invited to apply for our B.S. in Real Estate and Economic Development. As part of the 60 transfer credits, we will waive 15 credits of the upper division electives, giving students the opportunity to complete the major requirements and general education requirements within the 120 credit degree program. Students will graduate with a B.S. in Real Estate and Economic Development.

Information Systems and Technology Management (formally Management Information Systems) - Combining business knowledge with an emphasis on information systems technologies and management, the Information Systems and Technology Management program will teach how to analyze work flow and design information systems or Web sites, implement middleware that bridges mainframes and the Internet, build and manage networks and intranets, conceptualize and implement complex databases, set up security measures and build business-to-business networks. ISTM provides the in-depth technical skills and business background students need to serve as an information manager and prepares students for career opportunities in the areas of applications programming, data warehousing administration, database administration, database development and implementation, e-business development and implementation and IT consulting.
