Frostburg Still Accepting Applications!

It’s not too late! FSU is still accepting applications from transfer students for the fall 2012 semester, and still has on-campus housing available.
Don’t forget about the new scholarship, the “FSU Associate Degree Scholars Award” available for students who are graduating with an Associate’s Degree from a Maryland community college and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is worth $1,250 per semester!


Also, keep in mind that our Transfer Advising Days are scheduled for, Friday, June 8th; Thursday, July 12th; Tuesday, August 7th; and Friday, August 24th. Students who have decided to attend FSU and who wish to attend one of these events must call our office to register.

New UMUC Cybersecurity Scholarship

UMUC is offering a scholarship to outstanding new students who are pursuing a degree in cybersecurity. Qualified students may earn a certificate in as little as six months. Scholarship recipients will receive individualized advising to assist with certificate and bachelor degree completion. Recipients may be awarded $3,300/year for full-time study and are eligible to renew the award for one additional year. This scholarship is available for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Winthrop Univesrity - Scholarships for Transfer Students


Winthrop University (http://www.winthrop.edu/admissions/secondary.aspx?id=700) is offering a scholarship for for transfer students, as well as for international transfer students.


For students that completed 30 credit hours (excluding remedial or developmental courses) or more of college level work, there are two different merit based scholarships. Both scholarship are guaranteed for all students as long as the scholarship requirements are met!


  1. If you transfer with a GPA between a 3.5 and a 3.69 you qualify for a USD 5,000 out of state tuition waiver and a USD 500 stipend per year.

  2. If you transfer with 3.7 GPA or above, you qualify for a USD 10,000 out of state tuition waiver and will receive a USD 500 stipend per year.

Heard of UMUC, But Want to Know More?


University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is one of the 11 accredited, degree-granting institutions in the University System of Maryland (USM). UMUC is located in Adelphi, MD (near the UMCP campus), but offers many classes at the Universities of Shady Grove location and online.

UMUC has established a partnership program with Montgomery College called the Alliance. Through the Alliance, you can easily transfer up to 70 credits to UMUC. Other benefits of include:

  1. Waiver of UMUC's $50 admission application fee if you complete the Alliance admission application before completing your associate's degree.
  2. Simultaneous registrations at Montgomery College and UMUC.
  3. Access to the extensive University System of Maryland library, tutoring, writing assistance, career counseling, computer labs, and more.
  4. Earn a $500 scholarship towards a course at UMUC by simultaneously enrolling in at least 3 credits at Montgomery college and 3 credits at UMUC. For qualifying students, the scholarship is good for two consecutive semesters, up to $1000.

You will also have the opportunity to apply for the Community College Transfer Scholarship. Scholarship recipients receive $3,300 for full-time study or $1,650 for part-time study. Awards can be automatically renewed. The criteria for the scholarship include:

  • Completion of the Associate’s degree from MC
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA from MC
  • Submission of the UMUC Alliance or regular application and the scholarship application
  • US citizen or eligible non-citizen status

    UMCP Transfer Academic Excellence Scholarship (TAES)

    TAES is a highly competitive two-year scholarship, that is awarded to 30 exceptional transfer students for four consecutive semesters. All application materials are due by Tuesday, March 1, 2011.

    It is critical that students meet the following criteria to apply for this scholarship:
    • Be a resident of the state of Maryland
    • Be a permanent resident or a U.S. Citizen
    • Have an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale from all college work including work from institutions other than Maryland community colleges
    • Completion of 56 credits or an Associate’s Degree from a Maryland Community College
    • A new applicant to the University of Maryland, College Park for the Fall 2011 semester or newly admitted student at Maryland for Spring 2011
    Students who meet these qualifications must submit the following materials in a complete application packet by the March 1, 2011 deadline:
    1. A completed 2011 Transfer Academic Excellence scholarship application form - http://www.admissions.umd.edu/admissions/finaid/scholarshiptransfer.asp
    2. Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions
    3. A list and description of extracurricular and personal activities
    4. A three-page, double spaced typed essay on the following topic: Describe an issue of personal, local, national or international concern and it is important to you. How do you envision using your professional and educational goals to work towards addressing this issue?
    5. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a community college faculty member who is familiar with the applicant’s academic performance.
    Please also note that all students that are applying for the Fall 2011 term, are also required to submit their transfer application no later than March 1st. Transfer applications can be submitted online at www.admissions.umd.edu.

    All scholarship materials must be sent together in one large envelope to the following address:

    Fall 2010 - Scholarship for Community College Students (U.S. Citizenship NOT REQUIRED!!)

    Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship

    The Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship application process has started. The process is very detailed and extensive. The JKC Foundation will award approximately 50 scholarships to outstanding transfer students who will be attending four year institutions in the Fall of 2010. The maximum award available per student is $30,000 per year.

    Scholars may use the award to attend any accredited college or university in the US or abroad in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. The award is renewed annually provided the Scholar has maintained high academic performance, exhibited good conduct, made significant progress toward a degree, and complied with the Foundation's administrative requirements and request.

    The minimum eligibility criteria is:
    1. Be a current student at an accredited US community college with sophomore status by December 31, 2009 or be a recent graduate,
    2. Have a cumulative grade point average of a 3.50 or better,
    3. Plan to transfer to a four year college/university in the Fall, 2010
    4. Be nominated by his/her two year institution, and
    5. Have not previously been nominated for the JKCooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

    University of Baltimore (UB) Continues to Grow and May Have Scholarship Money for You!

    UB continues to grow and expand. The University has had a double digit growth in enrollment over the last three years; mainly in the undergraduate population, with new transfer enrollment up 11% in fall 2009. UB will also begin offering academic minors, in select disciplines, beginning this fall. For a list of minors, visit http://www.ubalt.edu/minors.

    UB offers merit-based scholarships to all transfer students with a minimum 24 credits and a cumulative g.p.a. of 2.5 or higher. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible. Awards range from $350 - $2,500 per year, and are renewable for the length of time a student is enrolled at UB.

    NEW UMUC Scholarship for MC Students

    The new Bata Student Success/Scholarship program is being offered through UMUC specifically for Montgomery College students.

    Dr. Evelyn Bata Scholarship Program for Student Success

    The Dr. Evelyn Bata Scholarship Program for Student Success will provide scholarships and additional student support services to students who transfer from Montgomery College to the University of Maryland University College. Scholarship recipients must pursue a bachelor’s degree on a part-time basis at UMUC. The recipient must not receive employer tuition. Preference will be given to high demand professional degree programs.

    Transferring to USG? Fill out the General Scholarship Application by 6/22/09!


    Universities at Shady Grove (USG) provides an array of scholarship programs, intended to help meet the needs of those seeking to complete a baccalaureate degree.

    All undergraduate students enrolled in degree seeking programs at the Universities at Shady Grove may complete this application to be considered for available scholarship programs. These programs vary in terms of qualifying criteria, award amounts and other terms. As each scholarship program has differing criteria, applicants will only be considered for those scholarships for which they qualify. All undergraduate students in need of financial assistance are encouraged to apply.
