Two New Majors at the University of Baltimore
UB will begin offering two new degree programs this fall. For the fall 2010/spring 2011 academic year, these programs will only be available for students with less than 45 credits.
Bachelors of Arts in International Studies
The B.A. in International Studies is housed in the School of Public Affairs. It is an interdisciplinary program combining courses from the social sciences, history, philosophy, and business. The program’s focus will be on the study of the international system as a political, social, and economic system comprised of the interactions of states, public and private institutions, and people and is designed for students who would like to gain a greater understanding of the global community and who wish to equip themselves better to perform in that community. This course of study will also provide a foundation for graduate work in international business, international law, and international studies. Additional information is available online at www.ubalt.edu/internationalstudies.
Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Sustainability and Human Ecology
The B.A. in Environmental Sustainability and Human Ecology is housed in the Division of Liberal Studies. The program examines the interaction of people with their environment using a multi-faceted, cross-disciplinary approach. Students will receive a firm grounding in environmental science, not only through learning about the diversity of life and ecosystems of the world, but also through the hands-on study of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and its immediate environs. They will also gain an understanding of human-environment interactions from the standpoint of many different disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, including anthropology, sociology, psychology, government policy, and philosophy.
